General Performance Index© 

(GPI: General Performance Index): "It is an index that measures the performance that a tennis player has had in a given period of time." This index, not shown here, is used to make the "General Performance Ranking© or GPI Ranking© ".

In this month of April we have a pair of new members on the podium of the GPI Ranking©. We are referring to the Chilean Cristian Garín and the Italian Matteo Berrettini in the 1st and 2nd places respectively of the aforementioned GPI Ranking©. The 3rd place of the GPI Ranking© corresponds to the Argentine Guido Pella, who already took the 1st best performance in February of this season.

Regarding Cristian Garín, during April he played 13 games and won 12, demonstrating a great effectiveness in the results as it will be appreciated in the tables shown in this report. Garín came out champion in two tournaments on April, at the Fayez Sarofim & Co. US Men´s Clay Court Championship 2019 (Houston, TX, USA) defeating the Norwegian Casper Ruud 7-6 (4), 4-6 , 6-3 and he got another title at the BMW Open 2019 (Münich, Germany) beating this time the Italian Matteo Berrettini by 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (1). Both ATP 250 tournaments and besides he reached 3rd round in the ATP 500 of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2019 (Barcelona, Spain) falling defeated by the Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena by 4-6, 6 (2) -7. This performance catapulted him to be the best performance tennis player during the month of April.

Matteo Berrettini, 2nd place in the GPI Ranking© in April, won a title in the ATP 250 of the Hungarian Open 2019 (Budapest, Hungary) after beating the Serbian Filip Krajinovic by 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Another important achievement of April for the Italian was to be a finalist in the BMW Open 2019 in Münich, falling defeated by the aforementioned Cristian Garín.

With respect to the Argentine Guido Pella, during the month of April he played three tournaments, the ATP Masters 1000 of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2019 (Monaco, Monte Carlo), ATP 500 of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2019 (Barcelona, Spain) and the ATP 250 of the BMW Open 2019 (Münich, Germany) having reached the quarter finals in all those tournaments. Guido Pella is ranked 6th in the GPI Ranking© for the first quarterly of this season, showing a good performance in the year (see article No. 80 of May 8, 2019).

Other outstanding players in the April GPI Ranking© are: Daniil Medvedev (RUS), Pablo Cuevas (URU), Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE), Rafael Nadal (ESP), Benoit Paire (FRA), Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA) ) and Lorenzo Sonego (ITA), complete the Top 10 of the GPI Ranking© for April.


In this month of April only four Top 10 of the ATP Ranking are included in the Top 30 of the GPI Ranking©. They are, Stefanos Tsitsipas (10), Rafael Nadal (2), Dominic Thiem (5) and Alexander Zverev (3). In parentheses, the ATP Ranking.

The ATP rankings are from Monday, April 29.


Cristian Garín has been the undisputed leader in terms of performance in the matches played on April leading the totality of the 9 tables of the present report.

Next, the tables with their respective performance rankings in each analyzed aspect are shown as usual, corresponding to the 30 players who achieved the highest performances during the analysis period.
